Elon Musk's New Travel Tunnel - Florida
Underground Passenger Loop Between Downtown Fort Lauderdale & Fort Lauderdale Beach
The Las Olas Loop
Elon Musk and his Boring Company have proposed an underground passenger transit tunnel for the city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida to attain quick, easy access for residents and tourists from its downtown area of Las Olas to its popular Atlantic Ocean beaches. The proposal is at the request of the city of Fort Lauderdale. If approved, the passenger transit tunnel will be called "The Las Olas Loop". A vote on the proposed transit tunnel will be taken by the city government on Tuesday, July 6th. If approved, it will be the first "loop tunnel" on the east coast and the second in the world. Musk and his not-so-boring, Boring Company have completed a transportation tunnel for Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Convention Center Loop became operational in June.
Unique Travel Technology
The Las Vegas Loop is 2 miles long and extends under the Las Vegas Convention Center. It transports driverless Tesla vehicles at speeds as high as 155 mph with passengers onboard. There are three stops. The electric Tesla's and the tunnel generate zero emissions. The project cost $47 million to bring to fruition. It is a success and is now being extended across downtown Las Vegas to McCarren International Airport.
Florida May Be Next For the Loop
The Mayor of Fort Lauderdale Dean Trantalis considers the Loop "an innovative and unprecedented approach" to addressing traffic congestion, vehicle pollution and transportation needs. It is green, fast, efficient and takes cars off the roads. Miami is also discussing with Boring Company CEO Musk a $30 million tunnel under the city. These so-called "Tesla in a tunnel" projects, thus far, can only carry Tesla vehicles. For Fort Lauderdale, details on the cost of the project and the length of the tunnel have not been revealed. If Fort Lauderdale gives Boring Company the go-ahead, that will trigger a round of competitive bidding for the project from other tunnel developers.
