E-Car is Recycled When Its Use Is Over
BMW is making a strong commitment to fully electric, sustainable auto-making. It is promising that within 20 years, all of its vehicles will be made of recycled materials and at the end of their use, the vehicles will be recycled to create new vehicles. To underscore the point, BMW has unveiled a unique, 100% environmentally friendly electric car, called the i Vision Circular Concept. BMW says the EV is "circular" to save the planet. By 'circular" BMW is referring to the fact that the electric vehicle is built with totally recycled materials and when its use is over, it can be recycled to create a new car. The Vision is a 4-seat hatchback concept that BMW says "looks ahead to a compact, all-electric car for 2040 that is squarely focused on sustainability and luxury. The EV goes on forever through recycling."
Circular Design
BMW is building this circular design approach into its manufacturing process. Every part of the vehicle is composed of recycled materials from the exterior to the interior and bumpers. The tires are made of sustainable natural rubber. Instead of paint, the Vision is covered in light gold, anodized recycled aluminum. The body of the car is composed of recycled steel and aluminum. The BMW logo is lasered onto the car. Inside the car, the dashboard features a 3D printed crystal sculpture where the EV's "thinking" and vitals are displayed. A recycled glass roof creates a spacious, airy cabin. BMW's Vision represents a whole new approach to sustainable auto-making and is a key symbol of BMW's sustainability philosophy.
Future of 100% Recycled, Electric Vehicles
As part of its sustainable cars program, BMW intends to make all of its vehicles 100% recyclable within 20 years. BMW also expects that the future of solid state batteries will be fully recyclable and will be created from totally recycled materials. This is a major move by the global luxury automaker to manufacture vehicles that are electric, zero emissions, sustainable, recyclable and much more friendly to the environment.
