History of Parliament Trust Honor for Skai's Decarbonizing Flying
One of the most exciting and promising zero emissions vehicles created in the 2020's is the world's first hydrogen fuel cell powered flying taxi/e-VTOLs called Skai. It's a hydrogen cell-electric, vertical take-off and landing vehicle that can carry 5 people. Alakai Technologies of Hopkinton, Massachusetts invented Skai, which has been awarded the "Royal Seal of Approval" for its mission to decarbonize travel and protect the environment. It will be featured in the Official "History of Parliament Trust 300 Years of Leadership and Innovation" commemorative publication. The platform recognizes Skai for setting a new standard in zero emissions air travel. The vehicle is fueled solely by hydrogen, not by lithium-ion batteries that are used in most e-VTOLs. With Skai, there are no emissions other than clean water vapor. Interestingly, Skai was co-designed with Alakai by Designworks, which is the design innovation studio of the BMW Group.
Tech Specs
Skai is the world's 1st hydrogen fuel cell powered e-VTOL. Its hydrogen fuel cells have a long life cycle and enable the EV to fly at a cruising speed of 100 mph with a range of 400 miles, depending on the payload. The top speed is 118 mph. The vehicle is capable of carrying 5 people. It flies on 6, vertical lift propellers powered by the hydrogen fuel cells. The e-VTOL is semi-autonomous but the company plans to make it fully autonomous. It flies at an altitude of 500 to 3,000 feet and can carry a payload of 1,000 pounds. Brian Morrison, inventor and co-founder of Alakai, says Skai offers a real world, practical solution to relieving traffic congestion, transporting patients to hospitals, moving cargo and supplies to disaster areas and much more. He adds that Skai's goal is the "democratization" of flight.
Carbon Free Flying
The e-VTOL is sleek, futuristic looking and stylish. The passenger experience is designed to be premier. There are multiple layers of redundancy for safety and there is an airframe parachute onboard just in case it is needed. According to the company, Skai is the first e-VTOL with a carbon free supply chain from hydrogen generation to flight. It is a zero emissions, new form of air mobility that is now being recognized by Britain's premier research organization.
Highly Respected British Research Group
The history of Parliament Trust is one of the most respected research projects organizations in British history. The publication in which Skai will be showcased is timed to coincide with Queen Elizabeth's 95th birthday and the 300th anniversary of Britain's first Prime Minister Robert Walpole in 1721. It is a very distinguished and historic honor for one of the most innovative new, zero emissions travel vehicles of our time.
