Vehicles Loaded with AI and Robotics

Global electronics giant Sony is going into electric vehicles in a very big way.  It just announced that it is forming a new, Mobility Unit that will specialize in developing electric cars.  And, it just unveiled a prototype electric SUV, the Vision-S 02 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 in Las Vegas.   This is Sony's second EV.  It joins Sony's electric Vision-S 01 sedan concept car that debuted in 2021.  These vehicles are state-of-the-art and loaded with highly advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

Very Advanced Sensor Technology for Safety

Sony says it will utilize the best in AI and robotics in its electric vehicles.  Sony says safety is the top priority.  The Vision-S 02 has 40 sensors inside and on the outside of the car including "high sensitivity, high resolution, wide dynamic range CMOS image sensors and Lidar sensors that accurately sense 3-D space."  The vehicles have 5G capability, 3-D sound systems and let passengers play on Play Station through a digital video service.

More Impressive Technology

In the front of the vehicle, there are three display screens integrated into one massive display. The rear has two multimedia displays.  The vehicle includes Level 2 autonomous driving which is currently being road tested in Europe by Sony.  Vision-S 02 is powered by two electric motors.  Each motor produces 200 kilowatts or 268 horsepower.  Sony has not yet provided data on the battery and range.  Sony will open its Mobility unit in the spring of 2022.  Sony executives say they are now making preparations for the commercial launch of the electric SUV.
