Highly Advanced Hoverbike From Japan

The new XTurismo Limited Edition Hoverbike is straight out of science fiction.  Japan's A.L. I. Technologies has invented and is taking deposits on a hoverbike very similar to the one that Luke Skywalker rode in the Return of the Jedi, except this one is the real deal.  There are 200 limited editions being produced of this awesome hoverbike.  It is composed of carbon fiber and is priced at $777,000.  This is being called the world's first commercial hoverbike.

Tech Specs

The XTurismo Limited is unique.  There are two large rotors in the center of its frame and four smaller rotors on the outer edges.  The 4 smaller rotors are powered by electric motors.  The main power for the vehicle comes from a 228 hp gas-powered Kawasaki engine, designed for motorcycle competition. The hoverbike's drive system was co-developed with Toda Racing, which has won numerous racing series. Experts say this hybrid hoverbike is a cross between a jet ski and a sportbike.  It is 12 feet long, 8 feet wide and 5.5 feet high.  It is heavy, weighing 550 pounds.  Top speeds are 50 mph.  Its maximum hovering altitude is 8 feet and it has a running range of 40 minutes.

Headed First to Racetracks

The Japanese company is first targeting racetracks for the deployment of their hoverbikes.  Then they want to take it mass market. They are working with the Japanese government to develop a street legal version and also plan on developing all-electric hoverbikes for city use. For safety in their current bike, A.L.I has included an automatic control system with Renesas RH-850 microcontrollers for safer flying.  And a cloud connected computer system manages the bike's controls and software updates.  It is a very different take on the future of travel including personal air mobility and new mobility for disaster and search and rescue missions.
