Portfolio of New Electric Vehicles Under Development

British high performance car maker Lotus is going zero emissions, electric in a very big way.  It has unveiled an early sketch of a second fully electric sports car that it is developing.  Some automotive experts say that it appears to share some features of the classic Esprit, a hot super car that Lotus made between the mid-1970's and 2004.  The company will also start delivering its first electric sports car Evija, which is a powerful hypercar that pumps out nearly 2,000 hp.  Lotus is famous for its high-performance sports cars and race cars that deliver speed, agility, stunning design and are relatively lightweight.

Evija

Electric hypercar Evija is an automotive work of art and electricity.  At $2.3 million it's a limited production model of 130 cars for delivery in late 2022.  This vehicle is powered by four electric motors and pumps out 1,972 horsepower. Top speed is 200 mph and it accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in less than 3 seconds.  Lotus claims that it is the most powerful car on the planet.  The vehicle can fully recharge in just 18 minutes and has a 250-mile range.  The design is similar to that of a racecar with a large rear wing and butterfly doors.  The interior is state of the art with a digital display, infotainment, Bluetooth connectivity, a modem to connect to the cloud, a smartphone app to monitor the EV and its vitals from any location and more.

Upcoming Lotus Evs

The next electric sports car from Lotus, (sketch) code-named Type 135, is scheduled to be delivered in 2026.  There will be two versions:  a 2-seat sportscar and a 2+2 model with a longer wheelbase.  Both are electric.  The battery sizes are 66.4 kWh and 79.6 kWh. For Lotus, they are the tip of the iceberg. They are also developing an electric SUV and say they have three more EV 's in their pipeline.

Electric Vehicle R&D

Lotus is also collaborating on EV technology R&D with UK-based Britishvolt.  Britishvolt is a battery cell center of excellence. It focuses on optimizing energy density in batteries, weight reduction of the batteries and ultra-fast charging technology - which are all keys to the future of electric vehicles.
