Lots of Battery Power and Torque

Italian luxury car maker Maserati has introduced its first, fully electric SUV, the Maserati Grecale Folgore. The compact electric SUV will be available on the market in 2023.  The vehicle is Maserati's entry point into the luxury electric SUV global marketplace, which is burgeoning with new entrees and accelerating growth.  The Grecale, named after a Mediterranean Sea wind, is part of a series of new EVs from Maserati that will be sold under the Folgore nameplate. Folgore in English means lightening, and Maserati's first EV is expected to be just that - fast with style and lots of sizzle.

Some Features and Specs

The new Folgore is the electric version of the Maserati Grecale SUV combustion engine model.  The new e-SUV is coming with multiple powertrain options including all-electric and hybrid electric.  Features and tech specifications include:

  • 105 kWh battery pack with up to 590 pound-feet of torque
  • Two electric motors are likely
  • 400 Volt technology with no data yet on range, charging time and battery size
  • Interior fabrics are recycled nylon called Econyl
  • All wheel drive is standard
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • 12.3" main center screen and 8.8" sub-screen for extra controls
  • 3D sound system with 14 speakers & the option to go with 22 speakers
  • No word yet on pricing but it is expected to cost more than the standard Grecale which starts at $64,995.

Maserati's Electric Future

Maserati plans to sell only EVs by 2030 and to phase out gas-powered vehicles entirely. It has more electric vehicles already in the pipeline.  An all-electric GranTurismo will go on sale in 2023 and its next expected EV to be unveiled is the Grancabrio convertible GT.
