The A-4810
France-based, Renault-owned Alpine, which is a renowned race and sports car maker, has unveiled a hydrogen powered concept car that may be the top car concept of the decade. Alpine's Design Studio created the hydrogen, electric vehicle with 28 graduate students from the Turin, Italy-based Instituto Europeo di Design (IED), which is one of the top automotive design universities in the world. The new concept vehicle is called A4810 and it represents their vision of the future for an Alpine supercar in 2035. It is a spectacular vision of the future of driving a sleek, stylish, sophisticated, fully loaded vehicle with cutting-edge technologies, including a hydrogen powertrain. The vehicle's hydrogen power systems emit zero emissions. The design team says the hydrogen car "represents the extreme sportiness of the future" that is more technological and sustainable.
Features and Tech Specs
The A4810 is a very sporty two-seat vehicle that has hypercar proportions. It is 200" long, 79" wide and just 41.5 inches tall. The wheels are huge with a wheelbase of 107 inches. The design carries on Alpine's racing car tradition of vehicles that are sleek, aerodynamic, rounded, wide and low to the ground. It has F1 like aerodynamic features with big intake valves, aerodynamic openings and two huge exhaust pipes. The company is providing no data on the performance of the hydrogen powertrain other than calling it a "powerful, and agile concept car to provide pure driving pleasure."
Very Sleek and Powerful Design
The aesthetic design of the car is very sleek, powerful and aerodynamic. The new concept replaces Alpine's quad headlights with a multifaceted, hexagonal shape. There is a new LED lighting system that spans the front of the vehicle. And the rear lights appear to extend from the vehicle's body. And last but not least, the Alpine logo on the front of the vehicle glows in the dark.
Alpine's Future
Alpine will be a fully electric automaker by 2026. The new concept A4810 promises to be the stunning new direction for their brand in terms of "package, proportions and design language."
Will This New Concept Go Into Production?
We don't know Renault and Alpine's intentions about putting this promising new design into full production. But, it appears that the hydrogen powertrain was built by Renault. And Renault is clearly interested in launching hydrogen powered vehicles. It intends to introduce a new vehicle concept powered by hydrogen in summer 2022. We also know that both Renault and Alpine are going big into electric vehicles. For instance, Renault offers the Kangoo electric SUV and Zoe electric mini. As for Alpine, it has three EVs coming out by 2026, including the Alpine A5 electric hatchback that's based on Renault's 5 supermini. Alpine is also working on the Alpine GT X-Over grand tourer and an electric successor to the Alpine A110 sportscar.
