"Guiding Star" for Next-Generation of Lincoln Electric Cars
Ford's luxury brand Lincoln has unveiled its long anticipated first, fully electric vehicle. Called Lincoln Star, the concept car is loaded with fresh, new technologies and is quite literally an innovation test lab on wheels. The EV is a showcase for daring new technologies. Lincoln and Ford hope to gain public reaction and determine the level of enthusiasm for the new tech features and systems. Lincoln calls Star its "Guiding Star" for the future of the next generation of EVs. Technologies that are "must haves" and get rave reactions in Star will likely be found in upcoming new Lincoln EVs.
Many Bold and Unique New Technologies and Features
Star's design is sleek, elegant and smooth. It is neither a traditional sedan nor SUV but seems to be a blending of the two into a classy, low to the ground SUV. The grill in the vehicle's front is very low and almost nonexistent. The EV also has a low hood. There is a myriad of light feature accents on the exterior and in the interior of the EV. Star is the first vehicle to be built on Ford's new architecture for the next-G of EVs. The EV platform has enabled a very spacious interior that Lincoln says allows for connectivity, comfort and "rejuvenation". There is room for three rows of seats. There are see-through trunks. For instance, the front trunk is composed of electrochromic glass that clears when the EV is being driven to bring more airiness and light into the cabin for passengers.
Different Ambiances for Different Times of Day
The interior of Star has new digital concepts and a combination of smells, sounds and lights to create different ambiances and environments. There are three "rejuvenated" modes for the interior:
- Coastal Morning with the smell of sea mist, dawn light from the beach and soothing sounds
- Mindful Vitality with upbeat music, flowery fragrances and digital artwork throughout the cabin
- Evening Chill with night sky videos, calming music and the scent of evergreen
More Tech and Unique Features
Star comes with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. There is a simple pedal for one pedal driving that brakes when you take your foot off the pedal. There is also a free-standing instrument panel patterned on aircraft. The front display spans the entire width of the dashboard. There is no word yet on the electric motor(s) or the battery size, range and price. It is a fascinating innovation lab of technology for the future of EVs. No one knows if it will go into production as Star. We do know that Lincoln intends to introduce three new EVs by the end of 2025 and another new EV in 2026.
