Honda Developing a Breakthru Greener Jet
World's 1st Transcontinental Light Jet
Another Aircraft From Honda
Honda is renowned for its automotive, motorcycle, power equipment, robotic technologies and now its aviation technology. The Japan based multinational conglomerate has just unveiled its HondaJet 2600 concept. It's the world's first transcontinental light jet and it's designed for coast to coast flights. The aircraft's range is 2,625 miles and it can carry a pilot and eleven passengers. The original HondaJet, that was certified for flight in 2015, has been very successful for Honda. More than 200 planes have been sold. With the Concept 2600, Honda wanted to build a bigger aircraft for longer haul flights.
Something In the Air That's Unique
Concept 2600 is a unique, new piece of aircraft design. Honda calls it a medium sized jet with light-jet fuel efficiency. The plane has 40% more fuel efficiency than comparable planes and offers the same performance. The tremendous fuel efficiency is attributable to the plane's new aerodynamic design. There is "natural laminar flow" aerodynamics over the nose and wings. The carbon composite fuselage enables the plane to fly at altitudes up to 47,000 feet. The over-the-wing engine mounts provide improved drag divergence.
Tech Specs That We Know
Honda has not yet committed to putting the plane into production. So, the company has been quiet on many technical details. But we do know that it is designed to be flown by a single pilot. The maximum cruising speed is 450 knots. The range with a pilot and 4 passengers is 2,625 nautical miles. It is 57.79 feet long, 15.86 feet high with a wingspan of 56.72 feet. It is comfortable and spacious inside. The HondaJet 2600 is a fresh new look at a more fuel efficient future of flying. For more news like this, go to The Future of Flying
