Look at the Future of Driving

Lamborghini and MIT's concept car Terzo Millennio showcases the future of cutting edge, automotive technologies.  Lamborghini's first electric concept car was created in partnership with top engineering experts at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  It is their visionary design for the all-electric sports car of the future with a unique powertrain, no lithium-ion batteries and sleek, futuristic great looks.  They are in the process of developing the breakthrough technologies in the concept to bring them into the real world of driving.

Unique Technologies

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Terzo Millennio is that the electric motors are embedded in the wheels, which create a powerful form of 4-wheel drive.  It also opens up much more interior and exterior space.  Because of the electric motor placement, the designers of Terzo were able to include unique aerodynamic elements and curves in the exterior styling of the futuristic vehicle. And the motor placement also considerably expanded the interior space for the occupants.

No Lithium-Ion Batteries

The engineering team chose supercapacitors as the vehicle's power source rather than traditional lithium-ion batteries.  The supercapacitors provide many benefits.  They are one-third of the weight of lithium-ion batteries and provide three times the power.  They also recharge very quickly from regenerative braking and instantly release the power.  Again, supercapacitors are much quicker, more powerful and save tremendous space over lithium-ion batteries.  Lamborghini along with MIT are working on developing the technology for real-world driving.

Driving's Future

The Terzo Millennio is Lamborghini-MIT's vision of the future of green, more efficient, zero emissions, sports car driving.  They say that it is built on four principles:  energy efficiency through electricity, materials innovation for more lightweight vehicles, innovative vehicle architecture & powertrain and sound and emotion. They are even contemplating a unique sound for the electric motors. Their vehicle is a highly visionary and fascinating look at the future of driving. Italy-based luxury sports car and SUV manufacturer Lamborghini is owned by VW. For more news stories like this, go to Daily Vehicle Briefing
