The Future of Zero Emissions Driving

French automaker Renault is about to unveil the world's first hydrogen powered car that appears ready to go into production.  The technology in this vehicle is revolutionary.  It has an internal combustion engine that is powered by hydrogen instead of gasoline.  The company just released a teaser image of the new h-car.  It shows a new Renault logo on the side window, a slim front grill and an interesting headlight line and configuration.  It appears to be a tall vehicle with a rather low bumper line.  Some automotive experts believe that it is a hydrogen powered SUV.  According to Renault, the hydrogen car represents Renault's "sustainable development vision and commitments".  Within the past several months, Renault has displayed its commitment to hydrogen vehicles by unveiling its Hyvia series of three hydrogen, commercial concept vehicles that the company is putting into production.

ChangeNOW

Renault's new hydrogen car represents cutting edge, breakthrough automotive technology.  The hydrogen fuel-powered combustion engine makes it an unprecedented concept car.  The vehicle will be unveiled May 19 in Paris at the ChangeNOW event for a sustainable planet.  Renault says its goal is to provide "cutting-edge technology and innovation in transportation, energy and mobility." They add their new vehicle does just that.

Benefits of Hydrogen Fuel

There are profound benefits from using hydrogen to power cars.  The current range is 404 miles (650 km) on a single tank of hydrogen and the ride is emissions free with the exception of water. Hydrogen refueling takes less than 5 minutes.  Hydrogen cars offer high performance and long distance, emissions free driving. The one problem is the current lack of hydrogen refueling locations, particularly in the US.

The Hydrogen Future

Besides Renault, Toyota also is making a calculated bet that hydrogen power will be a big part of the future of driving as the world transitions from fossil fuels.  Toyota is in the testing phase of a hydrogen concept car that has a 1.6-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine.  The future of driving on hydrogen fuel offers the promise of long-distance, high-performance rides that are good for the environment.
