New Technologies Create Electric Muscle Car That Sounds like One

Dodge has surprised the global automotive world with an electric muscle car concept version of the iconic Dodge Charger, which is one of the original muscle cars.  Called the Charger Daytona SRT, it will be Dodge's first, all-electric muscle car and is expected to debut in 2024. It's a two-door coupe that combines futuristic and retro looks.  The vehicle is said to have the feel and sound of a gas-powered muscle car, thanks to several new technologies, including the multispeed transmission and exhaust system.  It is expected to replace Dodge's current gas-powered Challenger and Charger muscle cars.  Dodge is owned by Stellantis, a combination of Chrysler, Fiat and the French PSA Group.

Details We Know

The new EV has a very aerodynamic, muscular, yet retro design. The front of the car features a large opening for air to pass through which Dodge calls the "R-Wing".  It has a Fratzog logo in the middle of it, that dates back to a Dodge logo from 1962 to1976.  There are several, patent-pending breakthrough technologies including:

  • The "Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust" system, which provides muscle car sounds through an amplifier and tuning chamber.  Dodge officials say it works like a wind organ with chambers and pipes.
  • And the e-Rupt is a multispeed transmission with electromechanical shifting.  This technology and the exhaust system are unique as EV's normally drive in one gear and do so quietly.
The new electric Dodge Charger is expected to go into production as 3 different performance models.  The car features an 800-volt "Banshee" propulsion system.  Dodge has not disclosed any performance data as of yet.  For more news stories like this, Future Modes of Travel 2020's & 2030's
