Futuristic Car From SciFi

Renowned Chinese automaker GAC Group and its new Advanced Design Studio GAC Barchetta in Milan, Italy have produced a futuristic concept car for the ages. The concept, called the GAC Barchetta, is inspired by iconic Italian sports cars from decades ago and is tailored made for Italian sports car enthusiasts. The design team calls it the essence of minimalism, efficiency and simplicity.  It's a two-seat electric sports car.  In just two months, GAC's fully digital design studio in Milan completed this extraordinary concept car, that looks like it came straight out of science fiction.

Unique Aspects of the Concept

The concept is windowless and roofless.  The vehicle is as low to the ground as you can go, with very low height and exceptionally low clearance. The EV's profile is flat, and the headlights raise and lower from the body of the car. There is a panel that slides from the dashboard and covers the cabin when the car is not operational.  The vehicle was created to celebrate the opening of GAC's first R&D center in Europe (Milan), as a tribute to the rich Italian heritage in automobiles and to the power of efficiency and simplicity in auto design.  More unique and innovative aspects to the EV include:

  • An ultra-flat chassis with small batteries embedded in it like a giant cellphone. In fact, the system of very small batteries was inspired by smartphones.
  • A minimalist interior of recyclable materials, consisting only of 2 seats and a drive-by-wire steering wheel.
  • Inside the vehicle, there are wire connections instead of mechanical ones.
  • Very sleek, "mono-aluminum" body that is lightweight and timeless
  • The 2 seats are suspended on a shell that weighs only 6.6 pounds. The tension on the suspension straps provide strength for support.
  • The wheels are distinctively designed with a hollow inside and steel triangular bars on the sides.
GAC hasn't provided data, yet, on range, performance and battery capacity.  No word on if or when it might go into production.  GAC design has been in business since 2006 with offices in China, LA and now Milan.  For more news stories like this, Latest Innovations For Tomorrow
