New Innovation from VW
At the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, VW unveiled a 350 hp Jetta GLI Performance concept car. The new vehicle is the creation of the VW Design Center California Lab and VW's RacingLines. It's a race car concept that's aggressive and bold with the street-smart styling of Jetta. VW says it represents the VW design team's vision of a very aggressive looking race car along with classic GLI Jetta elements of style and design. A future iteration of this design is expected to go into production perhaps for both the race car and consumer markets.
Tech Spec
This new race car concept is equipped with an EA888 Generation Three engine that pumps out a hefty 350 hp and 372 lb-ft of torque. That is significantly higher than that of a normal street Jetta with 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. VW hasn't provided much data on performance, but it is expected to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under 5 seconds. The huge, Aero Race wheels take the Jetta to a whole new aerodynamic level. The vehicle has 6-speed manual transmission and there are many tuning upgrades along with huge 15-inch in diameter carbon ceramic disc brakes. To help the engine run at peak performance, there are carbon fiber cold-air intakes and a performance intercooler for maximum air flow. This concept was developed by the VW team to showcase the racing car possibilities of upgrading and retrofitting a sporty consumer car like Jetta and turning it into a racetrack warrior.
