Could This be the Next 4-Door E-Camaro?

Chevrolet's latest concept car, the FNR-XE, is an electric sedan that Chevy calls a look at the next generation of intelligent electric vehicles. It is actually Chevy's 1st, all-electric 4-door sedan. The EV is the result of a collaborative effort between GM's global resources and PATAC, which is GM's Joint Venture with SAIC Motors of China.  The vehicle is sleek, athletic and is reminiscent of the iconic Camaro.  Some global automotive experts are wondering if this concept will eventually become the new, electric, 4-door Camaro. There is a lot of expert opinion that it will be. No matter what, the FNR-XE contains a number of firsts.

New Firsts for Chevy

The new EV concept is very important because it is Chevy's 1st, 4-door sedan that contains the new GM Ultium battery and propulsion architecture that can be scaled up and mass produced. The Ultium technology is the base of the new GM Hummer.  Buick is also working to deploy it in their new EV models. Some experts believe the FNR-XE could go into mass production in China in 2023. The FNR-XE is also the 1st concept for China that combines GM's battery and propulsion technology with local SAIC and GM resources.

Style and Function

The EV has the appearance of a hatchback with the roofline flowing downward towards the rear of the car.  The sculpting on the sides of the car moves towards the rear wheels, which suggests a rear-wheel drive version of the EV. It will also likely be offered in all-wheel and front-wheel drive versions. In terms of size, it is expected to be sized like the Tesla Model 3 and give that EV a lot of competition. Chevy has not released any performance data nor given any indication if it will be sold just in China or be sold globally.  It is expected to have the advantage of being moderately priced.

GM's Big EV Plans

GM plans to introduce 30 new EVs by 2025. China is the world's largest car market and GM plans to introduce 15 new models in China by 2025. GM has also developed a next-generation Virtual Cockpit System developed by GM's PATAC in Shanghai that is expected to be part of the new electric sedan.  For more news stories like this, Latest Innovations For Tomorrow
