Mercedes Vision AVTR Comes to Life
Mercedes Vision AVTR Concept Car
You Can Drive Sideways If Need Be
Mercedes Benz has unveiled a real-life version of its Vision AVTR, a magnificent concept car inspired by the future and the original blockbuster James Cameron movie Avatar. Mercedes created the EV to mark the release of director James Cameron's 2nd Avatar movie - Avatar: The Way of Water. The Mercedes ATVR has a futuristic propulsion system and very innovative, edgy styling. The concept car is a blockbuster of its own, even though it doesn't appear in the movie.
Unique Design Language
The vehicle is fast-forward futuristic with totally glass doors that open like bird wings and huge wheels that resemble a flower in bloom. These features tie into the Avatar theme of conserving the beauty of nature. And of great note, Vision AVTR has 4-wheel steering that enables it to drive sideways, if a maneuver like that might be useful for you at some point in your journey.
A Car That Comes to Life
This concept car actually comes to life. When the driver approaches, the car lights up with animations and the entire car console moves slightly up and down like it is breathing in a gesture of recognition and greeting. Once the driver and passengers are inside, the seats slightly envelop the occupants and a "trackpod" reaches up to meet the driver's hand. That enables the car to slightly move forward and backward at the driver's touch. The EV is technologically equipped to make the driver and passengers feel it is intelligently interacting with them.
New Technologies
Mercedes Benz is showcasing breathtaking new technologies in this new concept. The Vision AVTR concept was first unveiled at CES 2020. It has come on a long tech journey since then. First of all, it is now a real car that automotive experts have tested and are giving rave reviews. Here are some of the top new unique technologies that it contains:
- A central control knob that allows either the driver or passenger to pilot the vehicle
- Technology that enables the car to turn almost within its wheelbase and drive sideways
- Like the world of Avatar, the car has bioluminescence. When the driver encounters the car, it reacts to you in its own environment, meaning it is intelligently interactive.
- The entire dashboard lights up and delivers information, mostly from overhead projectors
Some Key Tech Specs
The vehicle's electric motors are placed in each of the four wheels and have a 350-kilowatt output or more than 469 hp. The battery is not the industry standard, lithium-ion battery but a recyclable, graphene-based organic cell "chemistry" battery. Mercedes believes the battery is capable of a total recharge in 15 minutes. There are unusual flaps on the rear of the EV that provide communications to cars and people around it, such as the car is moving or braking. The Vision AVTR contains a great deal of more new technology. No word if or when Mercedes might put this stellar car concept into production. But it is one of the company's greatest visions into the future of driving. It is Avatar awesome. For more news stories like this, Latest Innovations for Tomorrow
