To Be Made in Ohio

Japan's Honda is developing a hydrogen powered CR-V for purchase in 2024.  Honda just released new, key facts on the hydrogen powered version of their most popular car:

  • The hydrogen CR-V will have plug-in electric charging capabilities
  • New hydrogen fuel cell system, developed in partnership with GM, is 2/3rds less expensive than the hydrogen fuel cell stack developed for the Honda hydrogen Clarity, suggesting the hydrogen CR-V could be reasonably priced
  • New fuel cell system contains "innovative materials" for electrodes and manufacturing specifications that make it less expensive
  • Honda says it will build 2,000 of the new hydrogen fuel cell systems by 2025
  • Vehicle contains two hydrogen tanks in the rear
  • Fuel cell system and drive unit are located under the hood
  • Intelligent power unit under the seats
  • Vehicle will be built in Ohio for customers in the US and Japan
  • Honda says the hydrogen CR-V is twice as durable and has significantly faster starting times in frigid temperatures than the Clarity
  • Honda is targeting to cut the fuel cell system costs in half, double the durability and to make future generations of the system very similar in cost and ease of use as combustion engines.
