TOP TECH LEADERS WARN OF AI'S POTENTIAL RISKS
- Dozens of the worlds leading technologists, including Elon Musk, are calling for a 6-month pause by AI labs in the development of large, powerful AI systems
- The Open Letter, also signed by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak & IBM Chief Scientist Grady Booch, says that new AI systems pose "profound risks to society & humanity"
- The tech giants say AI labs are locked in an "out-of-control race" to develop even more powerful, digital AI minds, that the creators don't understand, "can't predict or reliably control"
- If the labs don't self-impose a moratorium, the tech leaders are asking for governments to step in & do so
- The Open Letter comes shortly after OpenAI GPT-4 (underpinning ChatGPT) was unveiled, with the capacity to pass university exams, draft legal briefs and build a website from a sketch
- It is ironic & important to know that some of the world's most innovative & visionary tech leaders are calling for a pause in "next big thing" AI innovation to better understand the potential impacts & risks to humanity of the new AI systems.
NEW HYPERSONIC, HYDROGEN PASSENGER JET
- Swiss startup company Destinus is developing a hydrogen powered, hypersonic passenger jet that cuts Europe to Australia travel time from 20 hours to 4 hours
- For several years, they have been successfully test flying their prototype plane Eiger
- Now the company has receieved significant funding of approximately $29.4 million from Spain's Ministry of Science among others, to develop the hypersonic jet to run on engines fueled by hydrogen
- Destinus is being joined by the Spanish government, Spanish universities, technology centers & other companies to build the breakthrough, high speed passenger plane
- The government of Spain views the Destinus project as part of its goal to be the global leader in hydrogen fueled vehicles for travel
- Hypersonic planes fly at more than 5-times the speed of sound or 3,836 mph.
ALFA ROMEO CONCEPT CAR THAT PRIORITIZES KIDS
- Alfa Romeo has unveiled a very posh, stylish, 1st of its kind, Alfa Romeo Tonale Edizione Bambini with unique design features customized for very little kids
- In what has to be a first, there is a retractable baby changing station on board, which is a great idea
- It has an in-car baby monitoring system controlled by an app, which allows the parent to constantly monitor their baby during the drive
- Other kid centric & kid cleanliness features include: more storage space for kids toys, books & gear; custom made cleanup tidies that fit on the back of the front seats; 6 liter touchless bin for candy wrappers, bottles & other debris; 12 V vacuum cleaner stored on the trunk floor
- This SUV is a good looking & highly innovative new concept car, clearly for families with young kids to make their drives more fun and manageable, from the legendary Italian automaker.
