FORD PATENT: DRONES TO JUMPSTART DEAD BATTERIES IN STRANDED CARS
- Ford has filed for a patent on a rescue drone system that can help stranded drivers and jumpstart their dead car batteries
- Future Fords would be equipped with technology that messages a central computer to dispatch a rescue drone to deliver jumper cables or provide a charge directly from the drone to the car
- The drones would also have the capacity to open the car hood, according to the patent filing
- Ford launched a drone division about 5 years ago and has toyed with the idea of partnering drones with some of its "adventure", off-the-road vehicles to videotape the adventures
- Ford's rescue drone service would be a world first
- Ford says vehicles' GPS would guide the drone to the disabled vehicle & the drone would send instructions for other drones to join it to get the car up and running
