  • University of Glasgow scientists are conducting 1st-of-a-kind research to empower 3 monkeys to choose music or video by selecting infrared sensors on a player
  • What computer scientist Dr. Ilyene Hirskyj-Douglas of UGlasgow is developing is an interactive computer system that lets monkeys watch videos or listen to music
  • The potential is amazing:  interactive computer systems to enrich the lives of zoo animals, in particular, through new activities
  • Dr.Hirskyj-Douglas' research started with 3 Sakis monkeys at a zoo in Finland
  • She's already learned that they prefer audio only, like music, to video content, like underwater scenes or abstract shapes
  • Furthermore, they like to use their hands, teeth & mouths on very colorful button/levers to make their preferred entertainment choices
  • This scientific research is no "monkey business":  it is aimed at providing better lives for zoo animals through interactive systems
  • Separately, the University of Glasglow specialist in human computer interaction has innovated a prototype system for dogs to make a video call to their owner - my pup Win would certainly make use of that with frequency.
