WONDER IF YOU'RE STRESSED? ASK YOUR DOG
- A new study by scientists at Queen's University Belfast demonstrates that dogs can smell stress in humans
- Stress emits a scent that is on the person's breath and in their sweat
- We know that dogs can sniff out disease, like cancer, in humans, but this is the 1st time that it's been shown that dogs can smell emotions, like stress
- It is hoped that these new findings will help to develop innovative training for therapy dogs to help people with mental or physical difficulties relieve their stress
- 700 trials were performed & the 4 volunteer dogs correctly identified stressed humans in 650 of the trials
- The humans were vexed & stressed by tough math problems & the dogs were rewarded with treats when they correctly identified someone stressed
- Bottomline: the next time you get stressed over an issue, your dog probably knew it before you did.
