WORLD 1ST: ZERO EMISSIONS CRUISE SHIP
Source: Hurtigruten
- Norwegian cruise line Hurtigruten has developed a zero emissions cruise ship with giant sails embedded with solar panels, that's being called a world first
- The design is radical; it's expected to go into service by 2030 and it contains technology firsts, specifically built for the ship including:
- Retractable huge sails that soar 164 feet
- Sails are laden with solar panels to generate solar power
- Charges in port
- All electric, zero emissions
- Length: 443 feet
- Accommodates: 500 guests, 99 crew & has 273 cabins
- Battery: 60 MWh
- Range: 350 nautical miles per charg
- Zero emissions, sustainable cruise ship compared to typical crise ship with a carbon footprint greater than 12,000 cars
- Norwegian crise line currently has 7 supersized vessels & intends to turn them all electric.
ROBOT MAKES SALADS AFTER WATCHING VIDEOS
- University of Cambridge robot makes salads after watching videos of chefs demonstrating & making the recipes
- Cambridge roboticists programmed the robot with a cookbook of 8 different salad recipes
- The robot came up with a 9th on its own
- The researchers wanted to determine if they could train a robot to learn how to whip up a salad in the same step-by-step, incremental way that humans do
- Their robot watched 16 different salad making videos & duplicated them correctly 93% of the time
- Purpose: teach robots to learn a range of food preparations and let them do the cooking for you.
