TOYOTA'S BIG BREAKTHROUGH ON E-BATTERIES
Source: Toyota
- Toyota reports that it has achieved a "technological breakthrough" in electric car batteries
- The Japanese automaker says the breakthrough will cut in half the cost, size and weight of e-car batteries and has the potential to significantly increase range
- The breakthrough is in Toyota's solid state battery technology, which is much lighter and less expensive to make than current lithium-ion batteries
- According to Toyota, the new battery can deliver:
- 20% range improvement for its e-cars in cruise mode
- Full recharge in less than 10 minutes
- Deployment in Toyota new cars in 2027
- Toyota says the breakthrough is from inexpensive lithium iron sulfate replacing current battery acid called liquid electrolyte
- Toyota has also promised a battery EV within 3 years with a cruising range of 1000 km or 621 miles.
COULD THREAD BE A THREAT FOR TWITTER?
- Facebook, parent company META and founder Mark Zuckerberg are launching a competitor to Elon Musk's Twitter officially tomorrow
- Called Threads, it's a microblogging app that's designed to knock out Musk's Twitter before the cage fight between Musk and Zuckerberg ever begins
- Threads appeared in the Apple App Store over the weekend
- Here's why Threads poses a threat to Twitter and similar apps:
- Comes from one of the world's biggest social media platforms
- Instagram (META owned) influencers can automatically post to their established followers on Threads without starting from scratch as a new member has to on Mastodon and Bluesky
- There's a built-in potential user base as some Twitter users are looking for a change of venue because of their dislike of some changes on Twitter since Musk bought it
- Success for Zuckerberg is not that difficult: if 18% of Instagram users convert to Threads, Threads will be as big as Twitter
- The competition between Threads and Twitter is likely to be much more interesting than the upcoming cage fight between Elon and Zuck.
