• Did you know that lab grown diamonds exist?  They do and are becoming a hot item
• Lab grown diamonds are soaring in popularity as a more environmentally friendly, sustainable and far less expensive alternative to real, mined diamonds
• Some key facts:

1. Market for them is up 2,860% in past 5 years
2. Physically & chemically identical to their natural counterparts
3. Typically cost up to 70% less than a natural diamond
4. No environmental damage done through diamond mining
5. Created in a lab setting that mimics natural diamond creation by subjecting carbon to high temperatures & high pressure

• Appears to be an avenue of growth as consumers become aware that lab grown diamonds are a valuable, less expensive & a more environmentally friendly alternative to mined diamonds.

JAPAN'S AI SHERLOCK HOLMES TO FIGHT CRIME

• Japanese police authorities are deploying a highly advanced form of AI "behavior detection" technology to stop major crimes before they happen
• Using AI enhanced cameras and machine learning, they are testing a next-generation AI version of Sherlockian deductive reasoning
• Their deterrent system is in reaction to the assassination of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe last year and the recent failed attempt on current Prime Minister Fumio Kishida 's life
• This system does not use facial recognition capabilities
• The AI cameras focus on AI learning pattern recognition of 3 types:

1. Behavior detection of suspicious activities
2. Object detection of guns & weapons
3. Intrusion detection for protection of restricted areas

• Some experts believe this new technology will enhance security and deploy police with greater efficiency
• Other experts warn it could introduce hidden algorithm biases into policing
• Japan's National Police Agency wants to test the new technology to see how effective it is
• According to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, more than 52 nations of the 176 they surveyed are using AI cameras to enhance security and fight crime, using them as their own very high-tech versions of the famed British detective Sherlock Holmes.

• UK-based luxury automaker Lotus just launched its first, all-electric vehicle - a "hyper-SUV" called Eletre
• This vehicle in terms of looks and performance is in a class of its own and offers significant competition to Lamborghini, Ferrari and Porsche
• Here are details on the top model Eletre R:

1. Battery-powered hyper-SUV
2. Two electric motors
3. 112 kWh battery
4. 905 hp
5. 373-mile range
6. 0 to 62 mph in 2.95 seconds
7. 4-Wheel-Drive, rear wheel steering
8. Active, anti-roll bar
9. Maximum speed - 165 mph
10. Level 4 autonomous driving with LIDAR front & back
11. 34 safety sensors providing 360-degree view
12. 7 touchscreens inside
13. Recharges from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes

• Lotus is owned by Chinese automaker Geeley, which also owns Volvo and Polestar
• Lotus is reinventing itself with new automotive technologies like those in Eletre
• It aims to sell 100,000 cars a year which is what it sold over its entire 70 years in business
• Eletre will hit US showrooms in 2024.
