GOOGLE's ULTRA-POWERFUL QUANTUM COMPUTER
Source: Google
- Google has developed a quantum computer that can instantly perform calculations that would take other supercomputers 47 years to do
- Clearly a breakthrough, it performs way beyond the capabilities of current computers
- According to experts, the potential is huge including significant solutions for Climate Change and the development of breakthrough new drugs
- The system is so powerful that it is said to have the ability to undermine today's encryption systems making it a national security priority for the Biden Administration
- The device has 70 qubits, and each qubit increases the computing power exponentially
- At the moment, Google appears to have quantum computing superiority.

TARA PACIFIC EXPEDITION TO SAVE CORAL REEFS
- A 2-year research expedition, called Tara Pacific, by 70 global scientists has resulted in massive amounts of fresh data on coral reefs, the life they sustain and how to preserve & protect them from Climate Change
- More than 58,000 samples were collected from coral reefs stretching across the Pacific Ocean
- This is the world's largest genetic inventory ever conducted in a marine system
- Organized by Germany's University of Konstanz & included top scientists from 8 nations
- Coral reefs are being battered by Climate Change & they are some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world
- They support 35% of all marine life
- 2 key results:
- They've identified 1/2 million microbial species living in reefs, which is 10-times more than expected
- They've documented coral species' telomeres which protects chromosomes and are resilient despite Climate Change's impact on coral reefs
- This chromosome protector is present in humans but shrinks as we age; the scientists are working to find resiliency applications from coral for humans
- Big Goal: from all the data, an action plan on how best to protect and preserve coral reefs and their abundance of life from the growing threat of Climate Change.
