  • A new study from Texas A&M indicates that getting angry may help achieve your goals. Sheer willpower, attitude and a powerful desire to win have certainly fueled some of the world's greatest athletes like QB12 Tom Brady.  Now new scientific research shows that when people are angry, they try harder to achieve their goals. No way of knowing if some well-channeled anger was a part of Brady's winning mix.  But, apparently, anger when properly channeled can help people to succeed.  Here's what we know:
  1. Getting angry seems to make people try harder
  2. People seem to be programmed to respond to anger by taking action to overcome it
  3. The Texas A&M study involved 1,000 volunteers and was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology
  4. One experiment involved scoring high in a skiing video game
  5. In another experiment participants were given anagrams to unscramble
  6. When people were angry, they solved 39% more anagrams
  7. Anger was associated with higher success and faster reaction times across the experiments
  8. The Texas A&M scientists believe that when people are angry they put in more effort to achieve their goals and try harder
  9. Amusement and desire were also contributing factors to increasing achievement of goals
  10. The scientists say their research demonstrates that a mix of positive and negative emotions promote well-being
  11. Also, using negative emotions like anger on a task can be very effective to achieve goals.
