  • California-based Opener.Aero, now known as Pivotal, has just debuted its first scalable production aircraft - Helix eVTOL.  Here's what we know:
  • Helix is a personal, light eVTOL that has a unique tilt aircraft design
  • Entire aircraft tilts when changing between hover and cruise
  • It's a 4th generation platform aircraft with an abundance of technologies found in its predecessor, Blackfly.  Tech improvements include:
  1. Better digital electronics
  2. Improved aerostructure
  3. Better propulsion and power
  4. Enhanced pilot comfort and safety
  5. Reduced weather impact
  6. Simplified pre-flight checks
  7. More product options like trailer, GSM radios and much more
  8. Open for orders in January 2024
  • Pricing starts at $190,000 with option pricing not yet revealed
  • Bottomline: Helix is a unique, winged-lift-plus-cruise aircraft that relies on propulsion for hover and glides on its wings to cruise
  • Has heads up display user interface that tells the pilot altitude, speed and location
  • Designed for recreational flying and short hop commutes
  • It's getting a lot of buzz in the aviation community and received a great deal of interest at the recent UP Summit aviation show, showcasing top new flying innovation in Dallas.

  • Google Deep Mind has developed a new AI system that greatly accelerates the training and creation of multiple types of robots performing multiple tasks.  Here's what we know:
  1. Deep Mind developed this new AI system by working with 33 other research institutions using multiple different data sets from many diverse global robots
  2. New AI system seems to overcome one of the biggest challenges of robotics - the time it takes to build machine learning models for each robot and each task
  3. The new AI system is general purpose that works with different types of robots and enables them to perform various tasks
  4. Makes it much faster to train and deploy robots
  5. It's called Open-X Embodiment Project and incorporates new datasets from a diverse group of robots doing lots of different tasks cutting the robot creation time significantly
  6. Testing is showing it outperforms current robot training systems
  7. The researchers are open sourcing their data to accelerate the development & use of this new robot-teaching system to make possible the next-generation of quick-learning, multitasking robots.
