MIT CREATES AI CO-PILOT FOR SAFER FLYING
- MIT C-SAIL scientists are developing an AI co-pilot to greatly increase the safety of flying. Some key facts:
- AI co-pilot system is called Air Guardian
- Creates a 2-pilot system - the human and an AI computer co-pilot
- If the human pilot is distracted, the AI co-pilot takes over
- MIT says it blends human intuition with machine learning
- Also promotes a more symbiotic relationship between the human and the aircraft
- Computer system analyzes what the pilot is focusing on by tracking eye movements
- This new AI system relies on attention
- Computer uses eye tracking on the pilot as well as its neural network that employs unique mapping to determine attention and gaps in the human pilot's attention
- This is being called a partnership between a human and a machine, based on understanding attention and all for the purpose of safer flying
- The AI identifies early signs of potential risks instead of waiting for safety breaches like traditional autopilot systems do
- MIT team says this AI system also has potential deployments in cars, drones, robotics and autonomous vehicles.
SPECTACULAR, NEW AVIATION CONCEPT: SKY OV
- Sky OV is a cutting-edge new supersonic hydrogen plane concept, that could be a big part of the future of flying. Here's what we know:
- Sky OV is a fascinating concept plane, created by Barcelona-based, industrial designer Oscar Vinale that's turning a lot of heads because of its innovations
- It has a bladeless turbine engine and hydrogen propulsion system
- Bladeless engine operates by magnetic levitation
- Aircraft is powered by hydrogen fuel and electrical power
- Utilizes advanced engine technologies that deliver high speed and great fuel efficiencies
- Technologies include hybrid PDE or Pulse Detonation Engine and turbofan technology
- Blended wing system that folds in when wings not needed
- It's a passenger jet for up to 200 people
- Cruising speed of 913 mph; top speed of 1,141 or Mach 1.5
- This is one of the most fascinating new plane concepts out there.
