WHAT TIME IS IT? BIGGEST CLOCK BEING BUILT BY JEFF BEZOS TO OUTLAST HUMANITY
- Construction has begun on a huge clock that will hold time for 10,000 years. Here's what we know:
- It's being constructed inside a mountain in West Texas that Jeff Bezos owns
- 500-feet tall
- Will be powered by the earth's thermal patterns
- Costs $42 million to build
- The clock's idea was proposed by computer scientist/inventor Danny Hillis
- It will mark time with astronomical and calendric displays
- The clock is said to be an icon of the age of modern civilization
- Clock design assumes that civilization is in the middle of humankind's journey; therefore, the clock will measure out a future of mankind that is exactly equal to that which has come before now.
COULD OPENAI HAVE DEVELOPED AGI?
- Some AI experts believe that OpenAI may have developed Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) which is an algorithm that's as smart or smarter than humans. They add that the AI breakthrough was at the center of the recent chaos of CEO Sam Altman's firing and return to OpenAI. Here's what we know:
- Open AI may be at the brink of achieving AGI
- AGI is the current Holy Grail of AI
- Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) means the algorithm can complete complex tasks as well as or superior to humans
- OpenAI's project to reach AGI is called Q* or Qstar
- According to Reuters, the Open AI board was concerned about Q* and commercializing it before its capabilities are fully understood
- Some experts believe that Q*'s innovations are tremendous
- The innovations include solving math problems, using logical reasoning and planning - each of which represent tremendous strides forward
- Sam Altman is back as CEO of OpenAI and the company is not commenting on the matter.
DARPA'S BREAKTHRU VTOL AIRCRAFT
Source: DARPA
- The Pentagon's advanced research projects agency DARPA is developing the SPRINT X-Plane, which is being called "the Mother of all vertical lift aircraft". New technologies developed will advance not only military aircraft, but potentially also eVTOL flying cars for consumers. Here are some key facts:
- Revolutionary new aircraft that will take-off, land and hover like a helicopter and then transition to fly like a jet
- DARPA wants SPRINT to hit speeds up to 518 mph
- DARPA is developing advanced new technologies for the aircraft
- 4 defense contractors are involved including Bell Textron, Northrup Grumman, Piasecki Aircraft and Aurora Flight Sciences
- Bell is working on a folding rotor and integrated propulsion
- Some of the new innovations in technology developed for SPRINT may prove to be catalysts for commercial aircraft, flying cars and flying taxi.
