BREAKTHRU IN PHOTOSYNTHESIS MAY ENABLE HUMAN LIVING IN SPACE
- Scientists have developed a breakthrough photosynthesis process that will enable humans to live and breathe on Mars and elsewhere in space. The scientists say the process can complement life support systems in space habitats. Here's what we know:
- Fundamentally the breakthrough process captures light and transforms it into useful chemicals just as plants do
- Scientists behind the breakthrough are from the European Space Agency (ESA), University of Warwick and the Georgia Institute of Technology and it's part of their Humans on Mars initiative
- The primary source of energy is from the Sun
- Semiconductors are used to absorb energy much like chlorophyll in plants
- The solar energy is then converted to hydrogen, oxygen and other molecules, depending on the semiconductor
- The process will be tested onboard a rocket launched to the edges of space in late 2024 or 2025.
- Bottom-line: the breakthrough enables human life and sustainability on other planets and the scientists add on Earth.
1ST PORSCHE 911 HYBRID IS COMING
- Porsche will release its 1st hybrid 911 called the Porsche 922.2 within the next year as part of its 2025 model year lineup. Here's what we know:
- This is Porsche's long anticipated Porsche 911 hybrid version
- Called Porsche 922.2
- Powerful T-HEV co-developed with EV maker Rimac, which Porsche has a 45% stake in
- 400-volt system combines twin-turbo modified V6 with an electric motor
- 478 hp and 475 ft lbs. of torque
- 922.2 is not a plug-in
- Battery is charged by the V6 engine and kinetic energy generated by braking
- Exquisitely styled, robust, greener Porsche 911.
