THE CAR THAT CAN SPIN, CRAB WALK & DRIVE SIDEWAYS
Source: Hyundai
- Thanks to 4-wheel steering, the Hyundai Mobion is a breakthrough of agility. Here's what we know:
- Based on former Car of the Year Ioniq 5
- Hyundai division, Hyundai Mobis, says it plans to bring the technology to market
- To allow for independent steering of large angles of movement, Hyundai Mobis placed 4, small electric motors inside each wheel, giving each its own power independently
- Mobion comes with 3, Lidar device sensors to detect and avoid nearby objects
- Hyundai Mobion can crab walk, spin, do doughnuts, drive sideways and more
- No date has been set on when to expect this new car technology but experts say Hyundai appears ready to make the tech accessible and bring it to market.
WORLD'S FASTEST PLANE NOW UNDER DEVELOPMENT
Source: Lockheed Martin
- The USAF is developing the SR-72, designed to be the world's fastest plane. Here's what we know:
- Hypersonic plane that will clock speeds of 4,000 mph
- At those speeds, it could travel from LA to NYC in 64 minutes
- Very important new piece of aviation technology because of its potential for commercial passenger travel
- Appears there will be no human pilot - autonomous flying
- Being developed by Lockheed Martin for USAF
- Known as the "Son of Blackbird"
- Predecessor SR-71 Blackbird ruled the skies in the 1960's
- SR-72 will hit the skies in 2025
- Some key capabilities:
- Expected to be world's fastest hypersonic plane
- Very high altitude flying
- Sustains hypersonic speeds for longer periods of time than other prototypes
- Can drop projectiles at never-seen-before rates
- Expected to be used for surveillance by USAF.
