  • Scottish scientists have developed materials that can use distillery wastewater to produce green hydrogen.  Here's what we know:
  • Green hydrogen is normally created by using fresh water
  • That consumes more than 20 billion quarts per year
  • The team from Heriot-Watts University is using distillery water instead of fresh water, saving over a billion quarts of fresh water
  • Next steps: scaling up production and analyzing distillery wastewater to find additional valuable materials to salvage from it along with hydrogen
  • A great use of distillery wastewater to create something very useful to help reduce the amount of CO2 spewed into the atmosphere - green hydrogen, an important emerging power source with zero emissions for aircraft, cars, trains, ships and more.
