QUALCOMM'S CONCEPT CAR IS A ROLLING SMARTPHONE PLUS
Source: Qualcomm
- Chipmaker Qualcomm showcased the future of mobility at CES 2024 with its Snapdragon concept car and highly advanced Digital Chassis technology bringing new meaning to a truly connected car. Here are some key facts:
- Snapdragon's level of connectivity is stunning
- Digital dashboard enables AI and cloud connectivity
- AI Engine accelerates on-device machine learning and computer vision for optimum performance, safety and guidance
- Car can self-diagnose itself and tell you how and where to get it fixed
- Qualcomm says the future of automotive connectivity includes 5G, satellites, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for higher levels of vehicle safety and intelligence
- Here are more highlights:
- Satellite connectivity for 2-way messaging in emergencies and in remote and rural locations
- More personal, interactive and immersive connectivity including multimedia and entertainment
- Lane level navigation with visual aid positioning to support and enable Augmented Reality-based navigation systems
- On top of all of this, the system has an automated driving-system-on-chip (SoC) designed to help global automakers develop autonomous cars.
NASA'S SON OF CONCORDE - THE X-59
- NASA has unveiled a super-quiet, supersonic jet, the X-59 SST. Here's what we know:
- NASA is paving the way for the next-generation of supersonic passenger planes
- Working with Lockheed Martin, NASA's X-59 is designed to fly faster than the speed of sound quietly - with no sonic boom
- X-59 is now undergoing extensive integrated systems, engine and taxiing tests
- It will takeoff for its 1st flight later this year
- Top speed: 925 mph or Mach1.4
- It will cut flight times, like NYC to LA, in half
- NASA is targeting a maximum 75 decibel boom to clear approval by the FAA and other international aviation regulators
- X-59 is a very sleek plane - a design to cut the noise when the plane goes supersonic and breaks the sound barrier
- If all goes well, X-59 will be the first commercial supersonic passenger jet to fly since the Concorde was retired in 2003.
