  • A highly advanced vacuum balloon for travel is under development in New Mexico that could break all records set by traditional helium and hydrogen blimp balloons.  This is not your average hot-air balloon ride.  It could be breakthrough new aviation innovation.  Here are the facts:
  • Scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico are developing a vacuum ballon that can travel as fast as a commercial jet
  • Designed to carry passengers, drop packages and drones and do surveillance
  • The Los Alamos scientists told the UK's Daily Mail their goal is to enable this unique vehicle to fly indefinitely
  • They expect to have a vehicle they can put into the air in a couple of years
  • It is designed to literally be lighter than air
  • Made of super lightweight material, aerogel, that they suck the air out of and create a solid balloon that floats
  • Fascinating point:  the vacuum balloon concept goes back to 1670 and an innovative scientist - Francesco Lana
  • The team has filed patents on their concept vehicle
  • Experts say some of the designs bear resemblances to the UFOs videotaped by US Navy pilots over the Pacific Ocean in the past few years
  • NASA is also developing a series of highly advanced balloons, which indicates its importance to new forms of aviation innovation.

  • New research by Japanese scientists demonstrates that people, who lived with a robot pet for two months, have lower levels of stress.  Here are a few key facts:
  • The researchers found the benefits of having a robot pet are similar to having a dog
  • The robot pets used were responsive, like a dog, to being petted or having a belly rub
  • In the human owner, the beneficial hormone levels to decrease stress significantly increased when they were responsive and kind to their robot pet for just 15 minutes
  • The new research was done by scientists in Japan at Jichi Medical University
  • The research team believes that robo-pet therapy has significant potential to treat depression and alcoholism.
