  • In 2025, a "Big Brother" satellite will be launched that's capable of zooming-in on anyone, anywhere.  It is breakthrough imaging technology so advanced that it can even view and track a license plate on the back of a car.  What are the opportunities and the risks of this new innovation?  Here are a few key facts:
  • This new satellite with high resolution close-up imaging was created by Denver-based startup Albedo Space Corp.
  • Thermal infrared imaging is so advanced it can zoom in on a person's face
  • Big opportunities for use by US military to track the enemy and national security threats; USAF & Natl. Air & Space Intelligence Center have contracts with Albedo
  • Other uses include tracking Climate Change, infrastructure, agriculture and mapping disaster zones
  • Big concern from privacy experts that it's a giant camera in the sky and could violate privacy rights
  • Albedo says the system does not contain facial recognition and that they vet their customers
  • The 1st satellite will launch in 2025 and under current law it is legal
  • Low orbit 100 miles above Earth
  • The technology is awesome:  According to Albedo, it's "ultra-high resolution exquisite imaging co-collected at 10 cm x 2m thermal - natively - from space to server in less than an hour"
  •  Albedo says it's the 1st company to offer aerial quality imaging from space.

FIGHTER JETS INVISIBLE ON RADAR?

  • Chinese scientists say they've created plasma stealth technology that allows aircraft to disappear from radar.  Here's what we know:
  • The technology can be switched on at a moment's notice to protect aircraft from radar detection
  • The tech was developed by the Chinese Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation
  • Stealth radar advantages, according to the Chinese developers include:
  1. Simple structure
  2. Wide power adjustable range
  3. High plasma density
  • How it works:
  1. Radar emits electromagnetic waves
  2. When the waves interact with the plasma, they cause the particles to move rapidly and collide, dissipating the waves energy and reducing the strength of the reflected signal
  • This is a strategically important, technological advantage for a military opponent to have its fighter jets and bombers undetected by radars.
