SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY PAVES WAY FOR MORE FLAVORSOME COFFEE
- Italian researchers pieced together the complete genetic map of the world's most popular drink, Arabica coffee. Here's what we know:
- Knowing the complete genetic map will help breed new coffee crops
- It will also lead to crops that cope better in the warming world
- With the discovery scientists may be able to provide coffee growers with coffees that appeals even more to consumers
- Scientists are now able to home in on the genes responsible for sweetness and the flavor of the brew
- Additionally knowing the gene sequences, scientists should be able to develop new varieties of coffee with different flavors and aromas
- What's more, the discovery will enable scientists to protect the plants from Climate Change
- For coffee lovers around the world, including me, this all makes for an even better start to the day.
