MY ROBODOG LETS ITSELF OUT WITH ITS LEG
- Typically, a robotic dog needs a robotic arm to open doors and pick up things. Not anymore. Here's what we know:
- Key breakthrough: machine learning model worked out how to keep robots stable on 3 legs while using one leg to open doors
- Upshots:
- Reduces robot weight load by eliminating need for arms
- Leg can press buttons, lift bags and open doors
- Without arms, robot can fit into smaller places
- Could also be used in space exploration
- Not as dexterous as robots with arms
- But this ETH Zurich, Switzerland created robot dog will have many uses where less weight and less size are critical
- This paves the way for your robodog to be not only your best friend but also your butler to carry your bags, press buttons and open the door.
