NASA BOEING "ULTRA GREEN" PLANE
Super: NASA, Boeing
- NASA and Boeing have partnered to develop an "ultra green" plane to revolutionize commercial aviation. Here are some key facts:
- Called the Sugar Volt
- Hybrid electric concept that's the size of a Boeing 737 but with longer wings
- Thanks to its electric engines, it is 70% more efficient than a fossil fuel-powered jet
- Electric engines work with gas engines that are used for takeoff
- During flight, the electric motors power the plane
- Foldable wings, in part to help fit into airport infrastructure
- Its longer wings will allow for shorter takeoffs and quieter operations
- Expected to hit the skies in the 2030 to 2050 framework
- Both NASA and Boeing say this ultra-green commercial jet will define the future of commercial aviation.
AI IS REVOLUTIONIZING WEATHER FORECASTING
- Advanced technology is moving us into an advanced era of weather forecasting. Here's what we know:
- AI methods like deep learning (DL) can crunch data and provide faster, more accurate predictions
- AI/DL can identify complex weather patterns that traditional methods could miss
- AI/DL provides more timely and accurate forecasting
- Current weather forecasting methods face limitations which AI/DL seem to supersede, according to studies
- Some key beneficiaries: farmers, disaster response teams, travelers, etc.
