NEW SCIENCE: PLANTS HAVE INTELLIGENCE & PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITIES
Source: Stock vegies & goldenrod
- Cornell University scientists have discovered that plants can sense nearby plants being devoured by insects and can adapt to avoid destruction. Here's what we know:
- Scientists speculate that plants may be able to count, recognize relatives, remember events and make decisions
- A previous study showed that they let out a high frequency distress call when there is damage to their leaves or stems
- The latest Cornell study showed they (goldenrods) while being eaten by beetles emitted a chemical expressing that the plant was a poor source of food to dissuade the beetles
- Bottomline: Plants seem to have some level of intelligence, self-defense skills and communications capabilities
- Imagine the high frequency chatter on your salad plate among a droopy head of lettuce, a leaky tomato and a sobbing onion!
