D A ILY INNOVATION BRIEF By Journalists Edward Kane & Marya nne Kane INNOVATIVE FUNDRAISING: WINE ON THE RUN Source: BBC & London Marathon Wine taster/connoisseur and marathoner Tom Gilbey ran the prestigious London Marathon sipping a different glass of wine at every mile. Here's what we know: It was all done for charity; he raised money for hospice care The challenge was to blind taste a different wine at every mile and name the wine vintage, grape and producer He identified 21 wines - an outstanding score out of the 25 wines he tasted along the 26-mile route He raised nearly $18,000. for hospice He avoided becoming too tipsy by taking small sips Elite marathon runners do not recommend hydrating with wine during marathon runs As for our Hospice Hero, he has not only benefitted humanity but also showed us another benefit o f wine - an innovative way to raise money for a worthy cause.
