D AILY INNOVATION BRIEF By Journalists Edward Kane & Maryanne Kane TOYOTA'S BIG BREAKTHROUGH ON E-BATTERIES Source: Toyota Toyota reports that it has achieved a "technological breakthrough" in electric car batteries The Japanese automaker says the breakthrough will cut in half the cost, size and weight of e-car batteries and has the potential to significantly increase range The breakthrough is in Toyota's solid state battery technology, which is much lighter and less expensive to make than current lithium-ion batteries According to Toyota, the new battery can deliver: 20% range improvement for its e-cars in cruise mode Full recharge in less than 10 minutes Deployment in Toyota new cars in 2027 Toyota says the breakthrough is from inexpensive lithium
