CC's Startling Impact on Marine Species

New Research on Devastating   Impact of Greenhouse Gas Emissions on Marine Life                                                     Source: Stock Images Devastating Impact of Greenhouse Gas Emissions on Global Maritime Environment The fate of nearly all marine species - up to 90% - could be at a high or critical risk of extinction by the end of the century unless the rate of greenhouse gas emissions is reduced.  If greenhouse gas emissions remain unchanged, the impact on marine life, marine ecosystems and the global environment will be catastrophic.  The startling threat that Climate Change is now having on 25,000 marine species has just been documented in a new scientific study and published in the publication "Nature Climate Change".  Bottomline:  if the world continues with "business as usual" with greenhouse gas emissions, 90% of all marine species will be at high to critical risk of extinction by 2100.  That would undoubtedly have a cascading, destructive impac

US To Cut Emissions 50% by 2030

President Joe Biden Pledges Aggressive Action on Climate Change                                                                                                  Source:  The White House White House Virtual Climate Summit on Earth Day At the White House Virtual Climate Summit, President Joe Biden pledged to cut US greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030.  The pledge will require massive changes and breakthrough renewable energy innovations for the US energy and transportation industries. President Biden says it is absolutely necessary and doable.  Biden made the pledge before more than 40 government leaders from around the world at his virtual, 2 day Leaders Summit on Climate, designed to demonstrate that the US is once again a strong force in the fight against Climate Change.  The previous Administration scoffed at Climate Change, withdrew from the Paris Accords and derailed efforts to fight global warming.  One of President Biden's first acts as President was to rejoin the Pari

Sustainable Jet Fuel - United's Global Push

Image
Eco-Skies Global Alliance Source:  United Airlines Sustainable Jet Fuel From Trash Chicago headquartered, United Airlines is partnering with Nike, Siemens, Japan's Takeda Pharmaceuticals and 12 other global companies to fund the use, this year, of 3.4 million gallons of low carbon, sustainable jet fuel.  The green fuel will be created from trash.  Sustainable jet fuel can be at least 80% lower in greenhouse gas emissions than regular jet fuel. The global partnership is aimed at starting to reduce the airline industry's carbon/greenhouse gas emissions footprint. Tripling The Use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel Airlines have been using sustainable fuel since 2008 to cut their greenhouse gas emissions.  But, until now, sustainable fuels represent less than 1% of the aviation fuel used worldwide.  The new partnership will triple that amount each year.  United says the initiative gives customers a way to reduce the carbon impact of flying and it should significantly boost the market

Climate Change Is Getting Worse - New Study

European Union's Latest Findings on Climate Change Source:  Climate Change Stock Images Temperatures & Severe Weather Rising   The European Union's Copernicus Earth observation service says that global temperatures in 2019 were the highest on record and tied  2016 for that dubious distinction.  Also, 2010 - 2019 was the hottest decade ever. And, the pattern continues to escalate.  Europe, the Arctic and southern Siberia experienced their hottest year ever in 2020.  All experienced extreme heatwaves and fires.  In the US, the rising temperatures in 2020 caused 22 distinct disasters, including wildfires and hurricanes, resulting in $95 billion in damage. Greenhouse Gas Emissions The scientists at Copernicu s  are calling for immediate action on greenhouse gas emissions to reduce the amount going into the atmosphere.  The UN sponsored global summit on Climate Change won't happen until November in Glasgow. So the Paris Accords stand in play, which the US has withdrawn fro

NEW CC WARNING FROM RUSSIA'S ARCTIC

Image
Northern Russia's Intense Heatwave & Wildfires Source:  Siberian Forest Fires in June 2020 via satellite image Clear Impact of Climate Change Two Years in a Row I n June 2020, towns in northern Russia are experiencing sweltering heat normally found in the Tropics.  In Siberia, it's so hot wildfires are breaking out, pine trees are bursting into flames and peat bogs are stone dry.  In some locations, temperatures have hit 100 degrees (F).  Climate scientists are calling the Siberian heat wave a "warning cry" about Climate Change from the Arctic.  Experts at the World Meteorological Organization are troubled by satellite images showing that much of Russia's Arctic is in an extreme heat zone. Blazing Heat The extreme heat is fanning forest fires and igniting normally water saturated peat bogs.  Climate scientists fear that the intense heat and fires in Siberia are signs of even hotter and drier conditions to come with more frequent forest fires.  Those

New Artificial Leaf Technology Could Help Cut Greenhouse Gas Emissions Converts CO2 to Oxygen 10Xs Faster than Real Leaves A team of engineers at University of Illinois at Chicago have created the world's first artificial leaf technology that works in the real world - outside, not just in the lab.  And, most importantly, it converts CO2 into oxygen 10Xs better than real leaves do.  For a great news blog on this, go to Important Innovations Collection: Artificial Leaves and Climate Change : New Artificial Leaves Convert CO2 into Oxygen 10X's Better Than Real Ones Source:  University of Illinois at Chicago Learning fr...

Climate Change & Great Barrier Reef Update

New Findings:  Less Bleaching in 2017 But Uncertain Fate for Great Barrier Reef Source:  Australia - Great Barrier Reef Experts Call for Urgent Action on Greenhouse Gas Emissions to Save Global Coral Reefs Global warming continues to escalate and the future of the world's coral reefs remain uncertain.  In fact, experts in Australia and at NOAA are urging immediate action to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to save coral reefs, including the world's largest, the Great Barrier Reef.  Their request for urgent action is a result of their scientific research findings, released today. ARC & NOAA Scientists The new research findings have just been released by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Coral Reef Studies in Australia and NOAA scientists.  They found that the Great Barrier Reef endured extreme temperatures a little better in 2017 than it did during the two previous years of coral bleaching.  Their findings were published today in Nature Climate Change.
