Breakthrough Medications Under Development to Stop Aging                                                                                Source:  Stock Images The Fountain of Youth Humanity has been searching for the "Fountain of Youth" to extend life since the beginning of time.  Now, a British computational biologist Dr. Andrew Steele says that drugs that could extend life expectancy to 200 years are under development.  In fact, a pill that directly targets and stops the aging process has been tested successfully in mice.  It made them much healthier, warded off disease and extended their lifespan by 35%.  That pill is now being tested in human clinical trials to see if reversing the aging process can be replicated in humans. How It Works The pills work by eliminating cells that trigger aging. They're called zombie cells or senescent cells that stop dividing.  They, then, build up in the body and shoot out substances that accelerate the ageing process and lead to physi

Liquid Glass - Brand New State of Matter

Image
New Material & Phenomena Discovered by German Scientists                                        Source:  University of Konstanz 20 Year Prediction Comes True Physicists in Germany have discovered an entirely new state of matter - liquid glass.  The team at Germany's University of Konstanz says the new material is unlike anything they've seen and has very unusual properties.  The new state of matter is a mysterious process that takes place between liquid and solid states of glass.  The atoms of liquid glass can move but they can't rotate.  The molecules appear to be locked in a endless struggle between the liquid and solid states of glass.  For more than 20 years, scientists have predicted the possibility of liquid glass and have worked to discover it.  The German team is the first to do it. Significance of the Discovery - Explaining the Unexplainable The discovery goes way beyond glass and may shed light on unexplained processes from in tiny biological cells to large pl

AMAZING SUN EVENT- GRAND SOLAR MINIMUM

Image
First Since 1650 Source:  NASA Start of a New Ice Age? NASA scientists say that the Sun is in a much less active phase, meaning far less solar flares, energy and sunspots.  The phase is called a Grand Solar Minimum, which hasn't occurred since 1650 to 1715.  It triggered a Little Ice Age in the Northern Hemisphere with lower temperatures. The question is are we headed toward another Ice Age? Climate Change NASA scientists say we are not on the brink of a new Ice Age.  And the new scientific basis of their conclusion is interesting.  They say the warming of the Earth from fossil fuels and their greenhouse gas emissions is six times greater than even decades long cooling from the Grand Solar Minimum.  In fact, NASA adds:  "Even if the Grand Solar Minimum were to last a century, global temperatures would continue to warm."  A shocking measure of the impact of global warming. Search for Life in Space The Sun is very dynamic and goes through 11 year cycl

Fighting the Flu with Non-infectious Viruses

Image
Novel Flu Prevention Method Source:  Artist Rendering of the Bacteriophages German Scientific Discovery Scientists in Germany have invented a novel means of defeating the flu.  They've created non-infectious virus shells that the flu virus latches onto.  This essentially traps the flu virus and prevents it from causing infection. Highly Effective The virus shells, created by the scientists, are called bacteriophages or simply phages.  They act as a trap for the flu virus by mimicking lung cells, which is the normal target of the flu virus.  The shells encapsulate the flu virus, thereby rendering it ineffective.  Mathematical models show the non-infectious phages to work effectively against a number of flu strains, including the deadly Avian flu virus.  Tests in animal models and cell cultures showed the phages neutralizing the flu in human lung tissue, preventing the flu from taking hold and spreading infection. Next Steps This is a very promisin
