Electricity from Thin Air - New Invention

Image
New Device Generates Electricity from Moisture in the Air Source:  UMASS Amherst Potential Green Energy Gamechanger Scientists at UMASS Amherst have invented a device that uses a natural protein to create electricity from the moisture in the air.  They call it the "Air-Gen" for air powered generator.  The device doesn't need sunlight or wind and creates clean energy 24/7.  It's a renewable process that works off the moisture in the air, both outdoors and indoors.  The inventors say it is low-cost, renewable and nonpolluting. Big Energy Possibilities The system now can power small electronic devices.  The team wants to take it to the commercial level to power electronics wearables and smartwatches.  They foresee the day when this system could eliminate the need to plug in your smartphone for energy.  Their system eliminates the need for batteries. How It Works The UMASS system connects electrodes to unique protein nanowires.  It...

Solar Electric Flying

BAE System's PHASA-35 Solar Aircraft Source:  BAE Systems Potential to be Airborne for a Year  British defense giant BAE Systems just unveiled and test flew a solar powered, unmanned aircraft called the PHASA-35.  The plane, designed for the military, has the potential, according to BAE, to remain airborne for a year without ever touching down.  PHASA stands for Persistent High Altitude Solar Aircraft.  It's a unique EV that could usher in a new form of green flying. Satellite Replacement One of the many things fascinating about this new solar electric aircraft is the potential uses.  BAE says it's an affordable and persistent replacement for satellites.  They add it can be used for communications, 5G networks and surveillance.  The highly advanced EV can avoid bad weather by soaring into the stratosphere. Maiden Flight The plane was built in collaboration with BAE subsidiary Prismatic that is located in Slovenia.  It has a 3...

AI Battery Big Boost for EV's

AI Helping to Develop Super Fast Charging, Longer Lasting Batteries for EV's Source:  E-Cars Charging stock image Breakthrough Approach by Toyota, Stanford University & MIT Using AI, researchers at Stanford, MIT and Toyota have developed a vastly accelerated approach to fast-charging, long lasting batteries for electric vehicles.  The team is using a new AI machine learning method.  It slashed battery testing times by 98% and the researchers say that is a key to creating the EV Holy Grail of supercharging batteries.  The researchers say their AI approach may make a recharge take a couple of minutes like refueling your car at a gas station. AI Trial and Error at Warp Speeds The AI method is enabling the team to quickly identify what's working to create ultra-fast and long range batteries.  In fact, they've been able to cut the trial and error of experimenting with different battery development approaches from 2 years t...

Jaguar's Totally New EV Concept

Vector Concept That's Electric, Autonomous & Urban Source:  Jaguar Land Rover Vector Designed for Urban Mobility & Destination Zero Jaguar Land Rover just unveiled a brand new concept electric vehicle, Project Vector, that CEO Ralf Speth says is "autonomous ready". This EV is designed for private, shared and commercial use in urban areas. It looks more like a shuttle van than a traditional car.  But, it's very important to Jaguar Land Rover.  They are collaborating with what they call "the brightest minds in academia" at the UK's National Automotive Innovation Center at the University of Warwick, supply chains and digital services to create a connected, integrated mobility system to get to "Destination Zero".  That's a destination that has zero accidents, zero emissions and zero congestion. Future of Driving The design of the Vector is a form that's becoming very popular with ...
